Coconut Industrial Parks to be Set Up in Kozhikode, Kannur
Thiruvananthapuram: In a bid to provide a fillip to the manufacturing of coconut-based value-added products, the Kerala Government will set up agro-industrial parks in Kannur and Kozhikode districts under the aegis of Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA). The combined area of the envisaged parks will be 100 acres.
According to E P Jayarajan, Minister for Industries, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) would provide interest-free subsidy to set up the units at Dharmadom in Kannur district and at another location in Kozhikode district. The KSIDC-backed projects will be set up with an initial investment of Rs. 5 crore.
“We expect that around 50 coconut-based industries would come up in the two parks, giving a boost to the sector,” Jayarajan said. The government agencies, including State Coconut Development Board and Commerce Mission, will provide technological and marketing assistance to the entrepreneurs. “KINFRA will identify 100 acres of land in the districts for the purpose of setting up the parks,” the Minister added. According to reports, the State Government has already received proposals from as many as five companies to start manufacturing of coconut-based value-added products.
