Galfar Mohamed Ali Released from Jail
Oman: Leading NRK businessman and founder and managing director of Galfar, one of the biggest construction companies in Oman, Galfar Mohamed Ali, who was in jail on charge of bribing an official, has been released as part of the general amnesty declared in connection with the Holy Month of Ramadan.
He was sentenced to 15 years by an Omani court for bribing a government official for getting a construction contract awarded. Mohamed Ali has resigned as the managing director of Galfar Engineering and Contracting Company after being convicted in the case. He was originally sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment in March 2014. Ali was also asked to pay a fine of 1.744 million Omani Riyals.
Galfar Engineering and Contracting was founded by Mohamed Ali in 1972. From a small construction company, it grew over the years into Oman’s largest private sector employer. Mohamed Ali was also the awarded ‘Civil Order Grade Three’ by the Oman Government for the contribution to the Emirate of Oman.
