Kochi: The United Sports Centre in Kochi was pumped with energy this weekend as sports enthusiasts and players from the city gathered for one of the biggest sporting events - The Champions Futsal League 2018 (CFL 2018). The event organized by Impulse, a sports-based startup, saw a power packed two-day tournament with a participation of 33 teams from various corporates in Kochi.
The tournament kicked off on Saturday morning with a number of matches being held for the different age groups throughout the day. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals of all these matches were held on Sunday.
Apart from adult teams, kids also participated in the tournament. It was quite a sight to witness small kids performing with great enthusiasm. Their performance was an energy booster for CFL participants to get into the final round of competition. The Under 12 (U12) Futsal League enthralled the audience with their quick and powerful performance on the ground. The participants for U12 were 7 Arrows Vypin, Safa Cochin and FF Academy (two teams). All the little players were given a medal as a token of appreciation by Shafi Ali, Kerala Blasters U-12 Coach 2018.
Women’s penalty kick was another fun-filled session of the event where women from the audience were amazed at their first-time kick on ground. Impulse encouraged them with a handful of surprise gifts.
A sapling was also given to all the participants as a part of the mission to save nature.
Team ‘Conduent’ took home the championship. The winning team comprised Ashim U R, Sebastin Ebin, Vinay S Gopal, Anoop Nair and Akhil Pradeep from the company Conduent Business Services India LLP. The chief guest of the event Sanil Kumar, Executive Director and Sales Head, Geojit Financial Services Ltd. handed over cash prize of Rs. 25,000 to the winners. 'Porto', the team from Geojit Financial Services, bagged the first runner-up title. Jackson, Sales Head, My Technopark handed over prizes to the runners-up.
Impulse associated with ‘Outreach - Child Support’, an NGO at Palarivattom for the event. Outreach is a project run by Jeevana Samridhi Trust which is registered as a public charitable trust under the Charitable Trust Act of India. Targeted beneficiaries are school students of families from extremely poor background and who are in need of a helping hand.
