Students’ Entrepreneurial Ability will be New Yardstick for Educational Institutions: KTU VC
Kochi: The new quality parameter of an educational institution will now be the number of entrepreneurs coming out of the institution and not the number of students who got a job after their studies which has been the norm till date, Kerala Technological University (KTU) Vice Chancellor Dr. Kuncheria P Isaac said here the other day.
Speaking after inaugurating a three-day international conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Mechanical Engineering’—ICETME ’15—organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Toc H Institute of Science and Technology (TIST) at Arakkunnam , Dr. Isaac said, “it is not how many of the students got job but how many of them have become entrepreneurs will be the parameter of the institutions in the future.”
Lauding the activities of the J C Bose Centre for Research & Advanced Studies at TIST, he said what the institute has achieved through its R&D centre is a good step in the field of research.
“While our students have good engineering skills, our educational institutions should give more thrust to imparting deep knowledge about the subject to the students and moulding them into knowledge innovators,” Dr. Isaac said, adding that a strong focus on research is the key to achieve this goal.
The conference is being held in association with National Institute of Technology, Surathkal in southern Karnataka. Eminent academicians from Sri Lanka and Japan are participating in the conference.
