Dinesh Foods was the result of a novel initiative to rehabilitate the workers of Kerala Dinesh Beedi in Kannur who lost jobs when the Karnataka-based manufacturers stopped production in Kerala. The food processing division subsequently formed by the Kerala Dinesh Beedi Workers Central Cooperative Society manufactures and markets curry powder, masala powder, various varieties of jams, pickles and squashes, value-added coconut products like coconut milk, desiccated coconut powders and virgin coconut oil, and tea dust.
Dinesh Foods is now set to launch non-animal milk ice cream using coconut milk and desiccated coconut powder-based chocolate. The company has plans to produce baby oil from extra virgin coconut oil. While the total turnover of the Society was Rs. 38.18 crore in 2007, it nearly doubled in 10 years when it reached Rs. 73.27 crore in 2017-18. Diversification initiatives also helped the Society increase job opportunities considerably.
