Confederation of Indian Industry Hosts Kerala IR Summit 2019
Kochi: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised Kerala IR Summit 2019 with the theme ‘Ease of Doing Business through Harmonious Employment Relations’ at Taj Gateway the other day with the objective of generating ideas for establishing a positive work culture and projecting the same to the outside world.
The Summit was inaugurated by Dr. T V Rao, Chairman, T V Rao Learning Systems Pvt. Ltd. and former professor at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Dr. Rao spoke about the importance of ‘job clarity’ by giving training and the need for engaging employees in the management of the organisation. He said creating happiness in the organisation is essential for good industrial relations in the company. He also stressed the need for evolving right kind of human development policies in the company, treating all employees with respect and exploring their possibilities and strengths.
Dr. K Ellangovan IAS, Principal Secretary, Industries, Govt. of Kerala, in his special address said good industrial relations is the need of the industry and Govt. of Kerala is bringing out a coffee table book which will capture all the good practices followed by various companies in Kerala and their experiences in running business in Kerala. I am sure this publication will be able to change the perception of investors about Kerala in terms of doing business in Kerala, added Dr. Ellangovan.
K Srinivasan, MD, Carborundum Universal Ltd., said in his speech that transparency and firmness in the decisions and employee engagement are the key elements of any successful company. Srinivasan also said that Kerala is the State which has got the best brains in India and hence, it is indeed a destination for investment. Srinivasan urged the representatives of all companies in Kerala to declare year 2019 as ‘’No Work Stoppage year.’’
The other key speakers of the Summit included Dr. S Sajikumar, Chairman, CII Kerala State Council and Managing Director, Dhathri Ayurveda Ltd.; B Jaikrishna, Chairman, CII (SR) HR & IR Sub-Committee and President (Group HR & New Business Development), Amara Raja Group; Prof. Biju Varkey, Professor, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad; Sajiv K Menon, Managing Director, Nitta Gelatin India Ltd.; and Dr. G Y Suhas, Head HR, IR & Admin, L&T Construction Equipment Limited, Bengaluru.
The Summit deliberated on topics such as ‘Constructive suggestions to improve HR & IR climate in Kerala’, ‘Industrial relations in other states of India – a learning model for Kerala’ and ‘Managing millennials – challenges and opportunities.’
The Summit saw participation of HR and IR managers from 100-plus companies all over South India.
