Kochi: “Ayurveda’s contribution to Kerala is very great. In fact, Kerala is known as the ‘capital of Ayurveda’. Kerala has the largest number of patients being treated under Ayurveda stream of medicine. We want to see how much more Ayurveda can grow and that is what led us to organise an event like the Global Ayurveda Summit 2018,” said Dr. S Sajikumar, Chairman, CII Kerala State Council and Managing Director, Dhathri Ayurveda Pvt. Ltd. He was speaking at a press conference held in connection with the Summit to be held from November 21 to 23 at Le Meridian here. “In the aftermath of the unprecedented floods that hit Kerala recently, when discussions were focussed on how to rebuild the State in a better way, Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) mooted the possibility of Ayurveda playing a major role in making Kerala the world’s best healthcare destination. The Ayurveda sector in the country is poised to round off 2018 with a landmark achievement of touching a gross market size of $4.4 billion or roughly Rs. 30,000 crore. To add to the bullish outlook, the Indian Ayurveda industry is projected to register a compound annual growth rate of a robust 16 per cent until 2025. The encouraging statistics have been brought out by a study conducted by CII on the market size of the Indian Ayurveda industry, its strengths and the way forward,” he said. Speaking about the role of technology in taking ayurveda to the next level, Dr. Sajikumar said, “To get to ‘Ayurveda version 2’, we need to ensure that new technology entered the domain of Ayurveda. Through thought leadership, Ayurveda needs a branding to showcase it before the world as something that is scientific.” In connection with the Summit, CII had conducted ‘Ayurstart’, an Ayurveda Startup Contest aimed at fostering and igniting the passion for entrepreneurship among the Ayurveda community. Ten selected ideas from the contest will be pitched at the Summit. The Global Ayurveda Summit will focus on startups, entrepreneurship and branding. The event will open with a keynote address by Sudhanshu Pandey IAS, Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Commerce and Industries. The Summit will discuss strategies for mainstreaming Ayurveda and explore opportunities in the Ayurveda sector for entrepreneurs, including startups. The Summit will feature top-notch brand gurus and also discuss skilling issues and practices at global level.
