KIMS-Jaipur Foot Centre aims to provide support to the physically challenged people of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka
KIMS-Jaipur Foot Centre, a first-of-its-kind facility established in collaboration with the charitable organisation Bhagavan Mahaveer Viklang Sahaya Samithi (BMVSS), aims to provide support to the physically challenged people of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.
With the help of Jaipur Foot, below-knee amputees will be able to lead a normal life and can sit, run, squat, climb and swim without facing difficulties just as any other person. D R Mehta, the Founder and Chief Patron of BMVSS, inaugurated the facility at the hospital recently in the presence of Dr. M I Sahadulla, CMD, KIMS Healthcare Group.
“KIMS Jaipur Foot Centre’s larger aim is to support the physical, economic and social rehabilitation of the differently-abled by helping them regain mobility and dignity to become self-respecting and productive members of society,” said Dr. Sahadulla. The KIMS initiative of making available the Jaipur Foot is not just about fitting limbs, but also about restoring dignity to people, he added. The Centre at KIMS Hospital will provide self-lubricating Stanford-Jaipur Knee, which is a revolutionary new technology, developed in the US along with BMVSS, and was recognized by the TIME Magazine in 2009 as one of the world's 50 best inventions.
Set up in 1975, Jaipur Foot Centre of BMVSS is the world's largest organisation for disabled people. Over the years it has provided limbs, calipers, and aids and appliances to nearly 1.75 million beneficiaries in India and 26 countries in Asia, Africa and South America. All prosthetics are provided free of charge to the beneficiaries.
