Thiruvananthapuram: Pledging its commitment towards protection of environment, KINFRA International Apparel Park (KIAP), Menamkulam has decided to minimise the use of plastic on its premises. The decision was taken on the sidelines of a plastic-free zone campaign held recently at the Park in association with Haritha Keralam Mission and ‘Love Plastic’ project being undertaken by Mathrubhumi SEED (Student Empowerment for Environmental Development).
K N Anandakumar, founder and Executive Director of Thonnakkal-based Sai Gramam, inaugurated the plastic-free KINFRA Park project in the presence of Jeeva Anandan, Managing Director, KIAP. With the support of Sai Gramam volunteers, KIAP will initiate measures to collect plastic waste generated as part of the day-to-day functioning of industrial units in the Park.
KIAP management will also organise special awareness campaign and training programmes for the successful implementation of the project. Students of Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) will also take part in the initiative.
Other dignitaries who attended the programme included Krishnakumar, Mathrubhumi Press, KINFRA; Susha, Principal, ATDC and Saritha, Regional Manager. Representatives from various industrial units of KIAP also took part.
Spread over 90 acres, KIAP hosts garment manufacturing units, which provide employment to thousands of women. It also hosts high-tech companies that manufacture products ranging from heart valves to solar lamps.
