LiLi: Offering a Painless, Permanent Beauty Solution
Kochi: Obsession of people for removal of unwanted body hair has been there for eons. The practice or rather the art of hair removal, however, has evolved over centuries. What started off with the use of sharpened flint stones and other painful methods gradually developed into techniques such as waxing, threading and laser treatment. The latest and the most popular is the painless and permanent hair removal technique known as electrolysis.
Sherly Kollannur and husband Tharu Benny are promoting electrolysis through LiLi Scientific Electrolysis and LiLi Academy of Scientific Electrolysis
In Kerala, Sherly Kollannur, who runs a clinic in Kochi named LiLi Scientific Electrolysis, has been winning hearts from world over by providing permanent solutions for her clients’ ‘hairy’ troubles.
Electrolysis is the method recognised by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American Medical Association as a permanent solution for hair removal. The technique involves applying electricity or high frequency radio waves to the hair follicle using a fine probe.
Sherly, who is the Director and Chief Consultant Electrologist at LiLi Scientific Electrolysis, has over 25 years of experience in the field. She had been working as a nurse before stepping into the world of electrolysis.
Shedding light on the changing market for hair removal treatments, she says, “In the past, Kerala had only one centre that provided such treatment and not many people were aware of it. It was only when an advertisement was put out that people from various parts of the State, that too only women, began approaching the centre. But things have changed now. Currently, we are offering treatment for both women as well as men.” LiLi Scientific Electrolysis is the first and the only clinic in the State that offers permanent hair removal treatment for men. Today, it has two clinics in Kerala. The first one was opened at Pala in Kottayam district in 2008 while the second clinic was opened in Kochi in 2013.
Dispelling the misconception that electrolysis can be performed only on those who have reached adulthood, Sherly says, “Nowadays girls are very beauty conscious. They can start treatment after attaining maturity – may be from the age of 12, and it can go up till they turn 80. Sometimes the clients are introduced to electrolysis by their children or grandchildren.”
One of the most common doubts most people have about electrolysis treatment is that whether it is effective for those with hair growth due to hormonal imbalance. “The only permanent solution for unwanted hair growth caused by hormonal imbalance is electrolysis,” Sherly says categorically.
Apart from the clinic, they have also started an academy – LiLi Academy of Scientific Electrolysis (LASE, Academy), which has received the accreditation of the Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence (KASE), the skill development mission of Government of Kerala. Sherly’s spouse and Director of LASE Academy Prof. K Tharu Benny says, “We currently have students from across India and abroad. So far 35 students have completed the one-month diploma course conducted by the academy.” LASE is the only institution in India offering diploma and advanced diploma courses in scientific electrolysis.
LiLi also imports and supplies equipment needed for electrolysis. “We are the all-India distributor for the Canada-based Dectro International. Apart from this, we also function as consultants for those who wish to set up new electrolysis clinics,” says Benny. For Sherly and Benny, the future of LiLi Scientific Electrolysis is all about expansion and they are looking forward to having a pan-India presence. For details, contact, Ph: +91 99616 13806 or log on to www.lilielectrolysis.com
