Kochi: Muthoot M George Foundation, the CSR wing of the Muthoot Group, has launched Muthoot Snehasancharini Project to provide artificial limbs to deserving amputees.
Under the project, 101 artificial limbs for the amputees were distributed at Muthoot Management Academy (MMA) Tripunithura, in association with Rotary Clubs of Cochin West and Coimbatore Midtown.
Recently, the official inauguration was done by Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II Catholicos of the East & Malankara Metropolitan. George Alexander Muthoot, Managing Director, Muthoot Group presided over the function. Achuthan Mathoor, President, Rotary Club, Cochin West; A V Pathy, District Governor, Rotary District 3201; Dr. Murali, President, Rotary Mid Town and Fr. Prasanth, Principal, Sacred Heart College, Kochi were also present.
The artificial limbs were manufactured at Rotary Coimbatore Midtown Artificial Limb Centre by using materials imported from Germany and the United Kingdom. The conventional Resin Socket with Soch Foot and Suspension Sleeve model for below knee and TES belt model for above knee are use-friendly, lightweight, durable and easy to wear.
This is the first time that a Resin model type free limb camp of this magnitude has been organised in India. Muthoot Group has played a vital role in organising by fully sponsoring the 101 limbs. Speaking on the occasion, George Alexander Muthoot said: “We are happy to help people to lead a normal life. The event reflects our strength and commitment to ‘Taking India Forward’.”
Beneficiaries of the artificial limbs hailed from various places in Kerala like Ernakulam, Idukki, Wayanad, Kottayam, Palakkad, Kannur, Kozhikode, Kasaragod, Vaikom, Muvattupazha, Kollam, Thrissur, Alappuzha, Chavakkad, Thiruvananthapuram and Thodupuzha.
The process of identifying the beneficiaries began in March 2019 by the members of Rotary Club of Cochin West with the help of volunteers from the Economics department of the Sacred Hearts College, Kochi.
