National Expedition by Federal Bank’s Lady Employees Flagged Off
Kochi: In a first-of-its-kind initiative, six women employees of the Federal Bank have embarked on journey of a lifetime. What makes their trip special is that these six bold women will be riding to New Delhi from Kerala on their Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles.
At a grand function held at Marine Drive, Ernakulam on August 1, the national expedition by Federal Bank’s women employees was flagged off by R Sreelekha IPS, ADGP (Prisons).
Merilyn Hamlet, Febina, Sangeetha Sikhamani, Lavanya, Seetha V Nair and Surya Ravindran are the brave ‘Federal Angels’ who are participating in this Bullet expedition. The 20-day ride which started from Kochi on Wednesday will reach New Delhi on August 20, 2018 covering a whopping 3182 km.
“The idea of the expedition is all about spreading the message of gender discrimination, equality and empowerment. We at Federal Bank truly believe that one should not face discrimination based on gender; it is performance alone really counts,” said Shalini Warrier, COO, Federal Bank.
Gender equality is a social value that the bank has been practising and propagating. Forty per cent of Federal Bank’s employees are women who find their workplace egalitarian, which keeps their morale high. In a general social setting that tends to intimidate its women population, the bank wishes to spread the word about women power through their own lady employees. This in turn led to the plan of motorcycle expedition on Royal Enfield Bullets exclusively by women employees.
Speaking on the occasion, R Sreelekha said that these six ‘Federal Angels’ are role models for all the other women working in the banking sector and also the commercial institutions in India.
The broader objective of the expedition is spreading awareness on gender equality at the national-level. During the 20-day trip, the riders will, at every stopover, spread the message of women empowerment and lend confidence to the sisterhood.
Shyam Sreenivasan, Chief Executive Officer, Federal Bank handed over keys to the riders. Shabnam P M, Vice President and Head, Legal Department of Federal Bank addressed the gathering.
