The Ayurveda hospital under AVA Care offers packages combining wellness, health, leisure and rejuvenation, apart from other therapies and treatments
If you are inclined to consider such an option, then Sanjeevanam Ayurveda hospital, located near Kakkanad in Kochi, is an ideal place. It is not just another Ayurvedic hospital. Sanjeevanam Ayurveda hospital under AVA Care offers packages combining wellness, health, leisure and relaxation techniques, apart from other therapies and treatments for various medical conditions, lifestyle diseases, among others.
The 110-bed facility is located amidst lush green surroundings which sets Sanjeevanam apart. The design of the facility is also starkly different from that of a usual Ayurveda hospital. The beautiful facade of the hospital ushers one into plush interiors having spacious, well-lit rooms with natural lighting, all adding to the positive vibe of the premises. Unlike other Ayurveda hospitals, patients who visit Sanjeevanam will have a markedly unique experience.
“The facility has been carefully designed to exclude elements that would create a typical hospital ambience,” says Dr. Ravi Pullanikattil, Medical Director, Sanjeevanam.
Sanjeevanam is truly an alternative weekend getaway, as the name suggests – ‘life-giving’ or ‘vitalizing’.
“Coming to Sanjeevanam for a two-day rejuvenation programme may not yield a positive result that would last long. But it will give a new alternate approach to wellness and living life to the fullest as prescribed in Ayurveda texts,” says Dr. Anil V Kaimal, Medical Superintendent at Sanjeevanam. The team of experienced doctors, trained nurses and physiotherapists at Sanjeevanam blends the science of Ayurveda with modern diagnostic methods to provide a wholesome experience which will, in turn, help the takers to recover and feel rejuvenated. “The treatment philosophy at Sanjeevanam is therapy and medication aimed at total wellbeing,” says Dr. Kaimal.
The Ayurveda hospital has all modern amenities for both patients and visitors such as a fully-equipped fitness centre, physiotherapy centre, movie theatre and yoga decks overlooking lush green fields of Kochi suburbs. While Sanjeevanam offers therapeutic and medicine-based treatments to help heal medical conditions like blood pressure, diabetes, gastro-intestinal, ortho and ENT-related problems, it also offers rehabilitation to those who have suffered stroke, met with accidents or undergone surgeries. However, Sanjeevanam Ayurveda hospital is not making any tall claims either. “We know our limitations. It is not that every medical condition can be resolved and cured here. We don’t make such false claims nor do we try to exploit patients through unnecessary treatments,” adds Dr. Ravi.
Sanjeevanam is a first-of-its kind Ayurveda hospital in the country that has combined different treatment streams. With Ayurveda at the core, it also incorporates other wellness practices such as naturopathy, yoga and physiotherapy to provide a more accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. “We are also integrating allopathic examination techniques and modalities which can go parallel to the Ayurveda-based treatment protocols. The goal is to make Ayurveda treatment more effective and easier,” says Dr. Ravi.
Two types of yoga, Hatha Yoga and Kriya Yoga, are practiced at Sanjeevanam. Hatha Yoga is practiced to help achieve physical flexibility, muscle strengthening and relaxation. Kriya Yoga, on the other hand, focuses on concentrated meditation which, according to Dr. Kaimal, is the part of traditional Satwavajaya Chikitsa which helps the Yogi regain mental strength. As far as medical specialties are concerned, there are four different streams Dr. Kaimal is handling Kaya Chikitsa which is the equivalent of general and internal medicine. It deals with internal systemic wellness, pulmonary problems and gastro-intestinal disorders. Next one is Shalya Chikitsa that deals with certain surgical procedures. Practices like Kshara Karmam, Agni Karmam (Cauterization) and Ksharasootram used to correct ano-rectal disorders like piles, fistula and fissures fall under the purview of Shalya Chikitsa. ‘Prasoothi Tantram and Sthree Rogam’, an equivalent of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in modern medicine, is another branch of treatment being offered at the hospital. Under Prasoothi Tantram and Sthree Rogam, the hospital addresses fertility issues among couples. The fourth department is an attempt to use Ayurvedic medicines effectively in patients. It is an effort to develop pharmacotherapeutics that is practiced in Western countries. In this department at Sanjeevanam the physician monitors and understands the illness, lifestyle and habits of the visiting patients and prescribes herbal formulations, diet and medicine intake timings accordingly.
Accommodation at Sanjeevanam is divided into four categories – shared room, single room, family room and Sanjeevanam suite room. Besides, there is a fully-equipped board room with video conferencing facility for guests to stay in touch with family and work. Ayurvedic concoctions are freshly prepared and served by experienced hands. Food and medicines are prepared at the hospital itself. Sanjeevanam follows a diet plan that combines the best of Ayurveda with modern approaches. The hospital provides healthy food but does not compromise on taste. Those who have an appetite for fresh vegetarian food can enjoy a nutritious menu comprising dishes prepared with vegetables sourced from organic vegetable farms. Sanjeevanam also has a non-vegetarian restaurant – Melam which is equipped with a separate kitchen.
In the long run, Sanjeevanam plans to invest in research, documentation and propagation of traditional healing system.
