WBS, Our Tribute to Enterprising Women of Kerala
On July 27, more than 200 women entrepreneurs and business leaders from all over Kerala converged at the Ball Room of Hotel Crowne Plaza Kochi to make Destination Kerala Women Business Summit (WBS) 2018 a grand success. Held in association with TiE Kerala, Women Entrepreneurs Network (WEN) Kerala and All Ladies League (ALL) Kerala, women, including members of these three associations responded wholeheartedly to the thought leadership and recognition platform created by us – a first-of-its-kind for Kerala – to deliberate on areas of interest, and share experiences and learnings with the larger women entrepreneur community. It was also a day to celebrate and honour some of the guiding lights and promising stars from the women business fraternity. Five women leaders took home the coveted WBS 2018 awards. Insightful keynotes, incisive panel discussions and involved question answer sessions punctuated the sessions that reinforced resoundingly women power in Kerala’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Leaders who addressed the sessions were unanimous in agreeing that like the IT industry, which heralded a balanced gender ratio in employment, other industries should open up to employ more women. This will not only help empower women but also bring about a more inclusive, empathetic and productive work culture, and humane society.
On the cover this month is our ‘Entrepreneur of the Year.’ She is the face of women entrepreneurship in Kerala. She is also someone who has redefined fashion and comfort especially in the ladies’ inner wear category and grown to expand the brand to customer segments like gents and children, and product portfolio to include outer wear and night wear. In 2017 she completed 20 years of her entrepreneurial journey and the venture crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark. She wants to go the IPO route like her spouse’s super successful enterprise did many years ago, but only when she touches the Rs. 250-crore turnover. Employing about 225 people directly and over 1000 indirectly, her business is growing at over 20 per cent YoY. It is our pleasure to feature Sheela Kochouseph of V-Star Creations and narrate her inspiring journey .
Thanks to the overwhelming response WBS 2018 received, we are announcing our intent to make this the flagship program in our events portfolio which includes SME Excellence Awards, Startup Awards, CEOs Croon for Kerala Kids (CCKK) and CEO Roundtable.
